Your books arrived in very good time, and this evening I had an opportunity to read them. For me, the stories were very sweet, each having interesting descriptions of life in another culture, and each providing a model of respectful and compassionate behavior. Such an important example for children!
The style of the illustrations was unique, and it conveyed an atmosphere of another land far away from our country. The stories were easy to read and provided a situation in which one could anticipate how the situation would be resolved. What put me over the edge personally were the maps and geographical descriptions on the last page. Our kids, and many adults, need to see beyond our borders. That was always one of my important goals during the time that I served in various roles in public education.
On a personal note, I had forgotten about the swinging bridges that I had encountered when I was in Lhasa and mainland China. It's quite a sensation to traverse one of those! Your dedications were very touching, as well.
Great job!

Your books arrived and they are so beautiful! How exciting. You took a dream and made it a reality. Impressive! I can't wait to see what else you have in store.
You found the perfect illustrator, too. Amazing work. Thank you so much for sending those to me. I now have signed first editions!!!
—Amie K.

We read the books last night and we all loved them. It kept everyone's full attention. My daughter said "what beautiful scenery." After reading the books we got out our globe and talked about continents and countries. My daughter is very into language and China in particular so it was a lot of fun.
—Carolyn M.

Good to have a traveler in the circle! Especially one who's been to Vietnam! How amazing, I just can't begin to imagine what your experiences were like. Your book, shares a sweet innocence that I can't believe you captured so easily. Ok, maybe not so easily seeing all the travel and time and efforts but it comes across as a feel-good tale, one shared from generation to generation, and it's simply wonderful. The illustrations also, have a subtlety to them that I wondered if the artist were of Asian descent. I adore it. The reason why I wanted a second copy is exactly what you expressed. My thoughts were that my mom would be thrilled to introduce the story to her community in PA of which she has been the center since 1978. Again, thank you for a wonderful tale.
—Thi N.

Cooper received the books and was very happy. Thank you for dedicating them to him. They are both really great stories and Cooper has asked me to read them several times now. For story time before we he went to bed tonight the little man proclaimed, "I will go get the book I want to read" and came back with Hidden in the Himalayas". Good stuff!
—Rob M.

I really liked your books. You are very talented and I think you should write more books! My favorite book was Hidden in the Himalayas. You are so great at writing that I want my librarian to see them. Hope you write more books.

My daughter started to talk to me about a story of a little girl who lived far far away. She found a small globe we and showed me where she lived. The endless info of the little girl in Vietnam was an amazing colorful story that Rebecca was fortunate enough to hear in her classroom by Debbie Doctofsky-Solomon . What a treasure Debbie has written in her two amazing journeys in literature. . .thank you Debbie.

I cannot rave enough about Debbie Solomon and her beautiful book, Journey to the River of Perfumes. Mrs. Solomon kept the interest and attention of our four year olds as the children participated with props as the story was read.  Journey to the River of Perfumes is a beautiful book with a meaningful message. We can hardly wait for Mrs. Solomon to visit our classes in the spring with Hidden in the Himalayas!  Truly a talented author!
—Mrs. Lorene Knierim, 4 year old teacher at Westminster Preschool, Fanwood, NJ

Through her engaging presentation of  Journey to the River of Perfumes, Mrs. Solomon took the children on an exciting journey to Vietnam along with a little girl named Lan. The story enabled the children to enjoy a journey to a country they may never experience otherwise,  and they enjoyed every minute! Mrs. Solomon’s book is well written with beautiful illustrations of a far-away land. It was a pleasure having you read at Westminster!
